01 July 2013

well hello july!

Oh the magic of July,
the long stretch of summer and all of her freedom.
A month defined by no school whatsoever, blissful heat, long days, swimming, & playing. It is in these sweet moments that I imagine that life as it is could stretch on forever. I ignore the siren call of the return to school in August, instead I dream of foraging new adventures with the boys, digging deep in gardens and late evenings under the stars.  I must reassure you, so that I don't represent any sort of false magical tale, that is not always cheery here. There is grumpiness, and sometimes the days seem too long with a lack of activities to conjure up, but in this first day of July, it is so delightful to dream of adventures ahead and linger over the memories already made.

What will be a part of your memory making this month? School holidays? Summer sweat? Hot stifling rooms and the whirring of a fan as it gently moves the air, trying so hard to cool over heated bodies.  Any mucking amidst creek banks or wading into cool blue pools? Or is it winter there? An eager approach to the days slowly getting longer?  A holding onto ear muffs, hats and scarves during brisk walks by the shore?
I would so love to know. xxoo

  1. Ah yes - the middle of summer as I see it. July will be a busy month. Heading back to the farm, camping on the lake with cousins, finally seeing dad again, art classes and eventually making our way to Colorado. It will be a hot month I am sure - with bug bites, campfires and roasted marshmallows and swimming in the lake.
May you enjoy all the bits of fun July provides.

  2. There's definitely been some summer-grumpiness at my house too, but I'm with you. It's nice to focus on the good moments and to think of Summer Adventure as an intention set. Happy July!

    1. Exactly. Everything is so impermanent. We must cling to the good as best we can. xo

  3. Ah, heavenly summer, here at last. I don't think we will really remember the grumpiness. I think mine will probably remember long days at the park, running around with friends, in and out of the pool, ice cream and games with brothers in the garden. I hope you and yours have a lovely week Rebecca.

  4. School holidays here in Australia too, but at the other end of the spectrum. We are enjoying cold, dreary days in front of the fire, watching movies and spending time with Nannas and Poppies. Enjoy the sunshine xx

  5. We have a bit of grumpiness here too - an overheated toddler and tired Mumma tend to do that :) Usually July means cold weather down under for me, but now I am getting used to it being summer over here in the stages. We are trying to keep cool in the midst of a heat wave and looking forward to a wee roadtrip up north later in the week - being in the car has never looked so appealing, thank you air conditioning :)

    1. It is sometimes hard to be on the inverse of the universe, when you have grown up one way and now are experiencing it so differently!
Hopefully you are keeping cool and finding fun things to do despite the heat! xo

  8. It is has been a mild summer here. Some hot, humid days now we have cool 60's and rain, which is a nice little break. I love summer. Sun on my face, wearing long maxi dresses, nights spent fishing. I wish I could live outside forever!

    1. Mild summers are nice. Where we live it rarely gets into the mid-80's in the summer time which I always appreciate. I think I would live outside forever if I could as well. It would have to be the right spot though....

  9. Happy July Rebecca!
We are spending our first summer ever hiding out from the squelching heat of the day. An odd thing for us to spend much to much time indoors this time of year.
Enjoy your beautiful coastal So. Cali weather for me!

  10. Winter here and loving it now all the rain has made way to bright warm skies. I would happily live in this weather all year round. July is my birthday month and it was always the best time of year when we lived in the UK and here in Australia it turns out it's my favourite time of year again. x
