what is happiness

happiness is a walk in the woods with my boys, high above the world. contentment. happy lucky me watching them build dams. running with their dad. freeing themselves, momentarily, of the chains of the day to day. stretching out, making-up stories, heralding their imagination to the moon.

in these small snippets of time it feels as if we are all on the cusp of childhood, on the threshold of infancy, of understanding and of old age. we hold hands. a boy climbs on my back. i am his trusty pack horse, and in my bent stooped shoulders, i feel the heavy weight of a growing boy. i am a mother to these three young men. happiness in the letting go of any sort of defined plans, or any greater design.

knowing that somehow, out here in the wild, we are just a family, a little pack of wolves, insignificant, yet, belonging to our own otherness, for however brief, or forever long.

here, in this moment, we are carving out a little space, a little time for ourselves.
just to be present, feels like a gift. xxoo

  1. Wow ... I love this post and those photos. This place looks like some enchanted forest. The setting for a fairy tale if ever I saw one :0)

  2. Beautiful Rebecca. Some of the happiest moments are out on family walks I think. There is something magical about just being together with no distractions, enjoying the outdoors.
