snippets of humanity, bright and fierce

There is no poem, no story, no string of slurred words across an evasive script that I could write this evening that would ever begin to help you, or me, or our children understand the oh so much discontent and violence in this small fragile world of ours. All I really have is a sing sung sob of emotions and small lanterns of hope floating down, on past my heart.
I feel slightly scraped out, a bit hollow from the awful unfolding news in Boston. Yet I feel ever so fierce as well. A fierceness that resides in the sadness, and fuels my deep passion to uphold creation, creativity and love. In this moment, my fierce self longs to lift high all the different lives we lead, splashed out across this space, across this tiny globe suspended in its love for the bright sun; fiercely lift up all the ways we are caught together by our likeness and all the ways we are pulled apart by our difference. I feel a fierce desire to cherish the common love we share, cup it in my hands as we puzzle piece together our fragmented whole.
We are a tenuous bunch, us humans, and oh so many of us are just trying. trying to get through the day. trying to get to the next pay check, trying to field a crop, gather food; trying to finish a race amidst the smacking sweat of stinging tears and aching lungs.
We, this crux of life we call humanity, we must remember. We must remember that we have a weight filled responsibility to walk forward from this day, just like any other day, just as in any other heart-broken lost child in the darkness; we must go out and swim into the ocean, cast our lanterns of hope upon the river, sing into the echoes of the caverns so that we can gather our ripped apart lives back together; and then fiercely, lovingly, shelter the fragile, hug the living, tend to the sick, weep for the dying, and place, into their final beds, those lost to us.

  1. Perfectly said. Our thoughts are with Boston today. I am not to sure I can ever understand these hurtful actions when we are all just hoping to live a life full of love and happiness.

    1. I don't think we can ever understand what makes the world at times so dark, but it is by living out our own life filled with as much love as we can bear, that makes the world brighter. xo

    1. Thanks Ashley, I so loved your perspective on your blog -the helpers are so important and they are always what pushes back the darkness. Seeing people rush into help those who were hurt remain with me more than the images of the blood and wounded. xo

  3. I hate bad news- even worse is a bit of numbness at the thought, "here we go again". I hate my children have to see this world! In other ways, I hope against every force to the contrary that my children will be bringers of light to the rest.

  11. Thank you Becca for giving voice to feelings so many of us can't put to words. It reminds me of a line in a song by Delta Rae http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6FtsWX0dTg "Jealous is the night when the morning comes, but it always comes." XO

  13. This is lovely. Thank you so much for sharing! It feels like we are encountering one tragedy after another...but there are lessons to be learned, people to be helped, poems to be written and songs to be sung. We need to be fierce: Fierce lovers, fierce listeners, fierce helpers...

    Thank you
