8/52 Portraits of my children in 2013.

8/52.....
Oldest: I found you here, in our living room.
Afternoon sun on your neck, dust motes dancing in the air as I passed by, and you, reading a book, uninterrupted and in peace, perfectly content to only notice the story on the pages in front of you.
This one. My tough middle. I caught you at the table actually working on homework. Focusing! and so very intent on your task. It is a rare for you to do this (see this post Here.)  You actually should have had this homework done already and perhaps your focus is fueled by the pressure to get it done, because if you don't, you know you will be in trouble with your teacher.  I love to watch when you lose yourself in your work and forget about all the insecurities and worries you carry.
The Youngest. You still love to come into our bed in the early morning hours. This morning you got up and snuggled me on the couch while I was writing and then had me carry you to our bed so you could sleep a bit with your dad.

  1. I like it when you can capture older ones unaware, that the photos become so calm and natural, struggling with this at the moment for both the girls. Your oldest looks so absorbed in his reading, always so lovely to see. Ahh motivation to get homework done, getting in trouble will always help;) Your little one looks so cute snuggled up in bed. Wishing you a wonderful Sunday Rebecca. xx

    1. It is so hard to capture a moment on camera, especially once they know you are lurking around. I like to catch them unawares. My middle hams it up so much that it is really hard to get a good photo of him lately. Thanks for the lovely wishes. xo

  2. Beautiful, I like the picture of your middle child doing his homework. I think homework in general is a really silly idea actually, I remember it being a great source of anxiety for me as a child/teenager. I wonder if there is a way of engaging children in learning activities without having to make it a stressful situation? Maybe journal writing, problem solving in the real world, creating things outside of school hours should be encouraged... I'm not sure!

    1. Oh Ruby! Exactly! Early childhood SHOULD be about creating, moving, & playing rather than the rigorous homework that attempts to reinforce what they have been taught in school. G is dyslexic so reading and writing is very difficult for him. But he wants to be like the other children and just have it done to turn in...its a catch 22 really, especially for him. And for us as well because we would rather him be stretching his wings in other ways! xo P.S. I loathed homework when I was a child and teenager as well.

    1. Thanks, he is kinda groovy. :-) His glasses help him seem more aloof and studious. And he does escape into the world of books all too often (sometimes to the detriment of his school work). Thanks so for stopping by!

  5. Hi Rebecca, saw your comment on Foxglove Lane and followed you here ;0) Love your blog, I understand (as a Mum) catching these precious moments, now you have them captured here as forever memories ;0) Homework really hard in most houses I think , used to think it was only my house that had the difficulties and problems but learning that it is universal help ;0)

    1. Hi Naomi! I still can't get over all the amazing things that you are able to pack into your blog! so FAB. Yes, here, HW is very hard. Especially for our middle (he has a specific reading learning disorder also know as dyslexia). Somedays I wish HW could be magicked away! Have a lovely start to your week! xo

    1. I love that we have been dancing across blogs across ponds & continents! Thanks so so much for your lovely comment. I love trying to capture everything, but especially people...not very good at any of it yet. I am a very visual (learner?) person so somedays I want to record (or change!) everything. Your blog/photos are quite inspiring to record it all. Have a lovely week! xo

  7. Watching them read is so lovely, I think it's one of those moments that cushion the blow of how quickly they grow up.
